MIRI: A goodwill convoy yesterday served not only to foster closer rapport between members of local youth clubs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), but also to expose them to the historical sites in Marudi.

The ‘Konvoi Gerak Padu Silaturahim’, organised by MAB Sports and Recreational Club, took off from Taman Tunku here early yesterday, following the flag-off performed by Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

Apart from the representatives of MAB Sports and Recreational Club, other participants also included members of  Malaysian Islamic Propagation and Welfare Organisation (Pekida), Dragon Bikers Club and Lady Dragon Bikers Miri.

The convoy, comprising 100 participants on board 30 high-powered motorcycles and 10 vehicles, took two hours to reach Marudi, where they were received by the representatives of Pekida Marudi, who later took their guests to visit several historical sites there such as Fort Hose and Marudi Tua Pek Kong Temple.

“This is the first trip involving our club and other NGOs. I believe that it would encourage us to hold more activities this year,” said MAB Sports and Recreational Club chairman Sarbeni Japar.

Adding on, he said the club had held a number of social and welfare
programmes that had connected the members closer with the people.

“We also strive to help the state government, under the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) ruling coalition, through these activities.

“We strive to ensure that the people would continue giving their undivided support to the GPS,” he added.
